Albany Ale brewer, maltster

Peter Ballantine

1791 – ?

Ayrshire-born brewer who came to America in 1820. His own 1835 oath lists seven years of brewing: two for J. M. Schermerhorn in Schenectady, two for Robert Boyd and one for Andrew Kirk in Albany, then two on his own with eleven employees. Bishop (1868) instead says he first worked for Robert Dunlop. Moved to Newark in 1840 and founded P. Ballantine & Sons.
