Edward Cornelius Delavan

1793 – 1871

Former wholesale wine merchant who helped found the NY State Temperance Society in Albany (1829), funded tens of millions of tracts, won the 1840 libel trial brought by John Taylor, and built the temperance Delavan House (1845).
